We have had numerous alumni come back to campus to speak. Wood Robinson ’09 and his band, Mipso, played for students and discussed their music and their journey to Billboard’s Bluegrass #1 spot. Kevin McDonald ’06 spent three days with students teaching music, capping it off with an amazing performance at Jazz Café. Emily Siar ’10 spent time working with Upper School Choral and Caberet classes. Nancy King Quaintance ’78 spoke at our Senior-Alumni Luncheon and delivered a masterful speech on the topic of going about life being ‘Curious, Courageous, and Conscious.’ Noni Thomas Lopez ’90 was our featured graduation speaker. Katie Hendrix ’09 helped teach an Improv class to beginning acting students. Mike Megliola ’00 spent time with the StageCraft class, using his professional experience to teach students about stage lighting. In November, GDS hosted the NC Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS) Character & Ethics Conference. GDS Alumni, Zac Schner ’14 and Jeb Brooks ’01, came back on campus to talk to those in attendance about how going to a school with an Honor Code shaped their lives. In January, an alumni panel spoke to upper school students about their careers, college, and general advice for life after GDS. The panel included Wayne Robinson ’76, Mary Copeland ’79, Ann Davis Legette ’87, Allen Oakley ’97, and Carrie Hagan Stewart ’05 and Margaret Farrell Brown ’97. IhearfromouralumniabouthowmuchtheylovetalkingtothenextBengalgeneration! It is great to give and take. Alumni who are a little older can offer career advice, support and encouragement, and the younger alumni can share the positive changes that are happening at GDS and about entering the workplace. It’s that engagement between our alumni that keep our alumni association and school so strong. I encourage all of our alumni to connect with our young alumni and current students. They are the future of our alumni association and looking ahead, the future is bright. When we host regional alumni events, we hope you will attend no matter what year you graduated. We can all learn from each other! Greensboro Day School is a part of us and I know I can count on all of you to ensure that connection between our community continues to stay strong. You can see that in my closing … Once A Bengal, Always A Bengal!
