The Meg Chambers Steedle Scholar-Artist Award will recognize outstanding achievement in academics and the arts (including drawing and painting, graphic design, photography, ceramics, orchestra, chorus, strings, technical theater, stage management, dance, and drama performance) by a rising senior student. Meg stated that she wanted to create the award to encourage the continued growth and involvement of the arts program at the school, as well as to recognize the discipline and dedication it takes to excel in both academics and the arts. SheremembershertimeatGDSfondlysayingthat“GDSprovidedmewiththeopportunities to explore my passion for theatre that have since led to a career in the entertainment industry.” She’s also grateful for several GDS teachers who have become lifelong mentors. Meg currently resides in Los Angeles where she is a full-time actress. She has appeared in numerous television shows including Boardwalk Empire, Grey’s Anatomy, The Mysteries of Laura, NCIS, American Horror Story, Nashville and more! Meg attended Northwestern University where she studied Theatre Arts. In early spring, the Chair of the Arts Department will request nominations from the Upper School and Arts faculty. Nominees for the Award should be Juniors in good academic standing who have exhibited extraordinary dedication and talent in Greensboro Day School’s arts programs. The winner will be determined by a committee led by the Director of Fine and Performing Arts, the three faculty chairs of the Arts Department, and the Upper School Director (or designee of his/her choice). The award will be presented in the spring at the Upper School Awards Ceremony. It will also be recognized during the Arts Awards. Last year, we told you about the Google Connection with Shira Solomon ’07 and Aaron Pugh Rinksalis ’09. This past year, more and more young alumni have reached out and we’ve helped them connect! Below are just a few examples! • Maggie Phillips ’13 connected with Sonny Caberwal ’97 in NYC! • Christian Hairston ’13 worked as a marketing intern during the summer at Charles Aris, an executive search firm, where GDS Alumnus Chad Oakley ’90 is the CEO. • Jonathan Rogers ’13 reached out looking for opportunities upon graduating early from Duke University. We connected him with Ari Medoff ’99, who founded NurseCare NC. Ari hired Jonathan to start upon graduation in December!
