We love our Bengal Nation! Matthew Akin ’19, Berit Andersen ’18, Zaira Arfeen ’20, Katie Barton ’19, Charlotte Carr ’19, Justice Gardner ’19, Aaron Graham ’19, Elsa Rose Karcher ’19, Catherine Sar ’19, Michael Trentini ’19, Daniel Yamagata ’18, and Lily Yamagata ’19 attended the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) Youth Leadership Conference in March. Students represented Greensboro Day School to participate in larger discussions about stereotypes, harassment, prejudice, discrimination, and develop ways to make a difference in our community. As part of their Social Studies class, 6th graders visited five different places of worship to learn about the beliefs of our friends and neighbors across the world. The classes visited BAPS Hindu Mandir, Quan Am Buddhist Temple, Beth David Synagogue, The Islamic Center of Greensboro, and St. Pius X Catholic Church. Students enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about different religions first-hand and help them develop as inclusive individuals who value cultural diversity. All Lower School students enjoyed “Reptile Day” in May. Thank you to Mrs. Rose Marie Cook and Reptile Rescue of NC for the hands- on education. Students learned more about snakes, crocodiles, turtles, and other reptiles during their visits to the science lab. GDS Magazine | 9
