62 | Summer 2017 Senior/Alumni Luncheon: An annual tradition, this luncheon officially welcomes graduating seniors in to the Alumni Association. During the season they traveled to Springfield, MA; Columbia, SC; Atlanta, GA; and New York City for games! This gave us the opportunity to invite alumni to come see the games outside of NC! Jalen Ross ’12 spoke to the team following their game at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, imploring the team to enjoy the moment they are in. Many alumni attended the game in Atlanta. Former players Aron McMillian ’97 and DJ McDuffie ’97 spoke to the team. We enjoyed catching up with some of our NYC alumni during a small social in March! Tom graduated from GDS in 1977 and went on to attend UNC-Chapel Hill receiving his undergraduate degree in 1981 and his law degree in 1985 in Chapel Hill. In 1985, he was admitted to the North Carolina bar where he was a private practice attorney until 2007. He served as the Deputy Counsel of the NC State Bar from January- August 2007. Since 2007, Tom has served as a district court judge serving Alamance County. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Mike Easley in August of 2007. Lambeth was most recently re-elected in November 2016 for another four-year term that expires in 2020. He served on the Alamance-Burlington School Board 1997-2004 and as the Chair of the board from 1998-2004. He was named the GDS Distinguished Alumnus in 1996. Tom delivered a memorable speech using the lyrics from Tim McGraws’ song, Humble and Kind, as lasting words for the senior claass.
