Dransfield completed his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997, followed by residency in internal medicine and fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UAB, where he served as chief fellow. He has been on the faculty at UAB since 2003. He was named as a “Top 10 Teacher” in the Department of Medicine in 2006-2008, and in 2009, he was a recipient of the Cobbs-Rutsky Award for Clinical Excellence in Teaching. ALTR ERGO, a cycling products startup based in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad region, has earned recognition for the design of its flagship saddle, the Sanctuary. Led by cycling enthusiast and entrepreneur Will Holt, ALTR ERGO launched in early 2015 with a mission of improving the cycling experience for people worldwide, through aesthetically pleasing products aimed at better fit and superior function. The company’s recently-launched Sanctuary Saddle earned recognition from the Industrial Designers Society of America at the group’s annual International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Taking home a bronze award in industrial design excellence. The Sanctuary Saddle, created by Will Holt ’91 1992 Holly Barnes Hofbauer ’92 named 2017 Alumni Service Award Recipient The Greensboro Day School Alumni Association established the Alumni Service Award in 2002. This award is presented to an alumnus/a during Alumni Weekend who exhibits dedication and achievement in service to Greensboro Day School through exemplary leadership in voluntary service to the school. Holly is dedicated to Greensboro Day School. She has been an employee since 2006, and currently is the 4th grade assistant teacher and Summer Program Director. She is the Annual Fund representative for her class, the Lower School, and is a parent volunteer. She has been the Lower School coordinator for the Greensboro Urban Ministries canned Food Drive and the Lower School social committee coordinator. She has co-chaired the Bengal Dash for 5 years, and served on the Alumni Board since 2014. 4th Grade Teacher, Lorie Jones stated the following about Holly, “She is an asset to the 4th grade team. She went above and beyond her classroom duties when we had a classroom teacher have to take an unexpected extended absence due to illness. Holly helped with the transition of a long term substitute and made her feel the “GDS community” welcome. Parent and past PA President, Miriam Forbis stated the following, “She is a warm, caring and energetic presence in the classroom. As Bengal Dash co-chair, she worked to raise over $9,000 for service learning at GDS. Holly truly goes the extra yard: she teaches, she volunteers-she’s “all in”.” 1995 Dr. Mihan House McKenna was recently promoted to Senior Scientific Technical Manager (SSTM/GS-16) at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). SSTMs are proven leaders in actively pursuing opportunities for current and strategic future work through their indisputable credibility and influence with key customers and stakeholders. SSTM positions furnish highly advanced scientific and/or technical guidance and recommendations in research fields within the ERDC mission. This promotion reflects the outstanding and significant contributions of Dr. McKenna to the ERDC, the Corps of Engineers, and the Nation. Dr. Mihan House McKenna and Dr. Oliver-Denzil S. Taylor were married on September 24, 2016 at Primland in Meadows of Dan, VA, with both of their children (James McKenna, 2008, and Rohan Taylor, 2012). He recently received two outstanding recognitions. In September of 2016, he was the inaugural recipient of the REALTOR® Innovation & Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, which was created to recognize members who offer the most innovative and entrepreneurial ideas for others to borrow and use in their own success. Mark presents educational seminars throughout the region on security and technological pertinent to REALTORS®. In December of 2016, he was named Property Manager of the Year in 2016 by the Winston-Salem Regional Association of Realtors.
