64 | Summer 2017 1976 Wayne Robinson gave the keynote address at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business commencement ceremony on May 12th. Wayne is currently the President and CEO of Career Path Management & Associates, LLC. In addition to being a CEO, Robinson is the Triad NC Area Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA.) He also serves as Senior Pastor of New Millennium Christian Center, Inc. (NMCC.) Robinson earned his Bachelors of Science in Finance from Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech, in 1980. He received his ministerial license and pastoral ordination from the Cathedral of His Glory in 1989. Happily married for 36 years, Robinson and his wife, Renee have two children, Blake ’04, and Holland ’12. They also have a granddaughter, Johanna Marie, and a grandson, Saint Malachi. Carolyn teaches 11th grade English at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Ridgeland, MS. The chapbook is a look back at a time of extreme racial tension and a snapshot of today. The poems trace that tension from the 1960’s all the way up until the present. As the book progresses, it becomes all too apparent that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Rosen’s poems will move you and make you angry, hold you accountable and make you ask the looming question: “Where do we go from here?” The Deliberate Speed of Ghosts’ by Maggie Rosen ’81 1983 Nathaniel Hayes III and Katrina Guilford were married on May 11, 2017 at the Lovers Walk, hillside above the sea, in Sapri, Italy. The wedding party included Jimmy King ’79 and Brownlee Bryant. They honeymooned in Paris and reside in Greensboro. 1984 Darren Hollis and Victoria Bankov Albanese were married on February 14, 2017 in Athens, GA where they reside. 1986 Laura Sturm Lain recently directed Organic Theater’s world premiere production of Phantom Pain, which was performed at the Greenhouse Theater in Chicago. She will be performing in Organic’s summer repertory season, playing the title role in Lauren Gunderson’s Emilie, La Marquise Du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight, and will also be appearing in their production of King Ubu (an adaptation of Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi). Laura teaches acting and movement for actors at professional studios and colleges in the Chicago area, and coaches privately as well. Last year her coaching work was seen in auditions and performances all over Chicago and an episode of Fox’s TV series, The Exorcist. 1988 Kim Fisher Turner was chosen by Chase Street Elementary School (Athens, GA) as their Mentor of the Year. Her mentoring visits combine arts/crafts projects, games and help with school work - - building social and academic skills. As a Community Mentor, Kim has also taken her mentee to a variety of outside-school and summer activities. 1989 Mark Dransfield, M.D., professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine, part of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation. The ASCI is an honor society of physician- scientists who translate findings in the laboratory to the advancement of clinical practice. Founded in 1908, the society is home to nearly 3,000 members who are in the upper ranks of academic medicine and industry. The society elected 64 members for 2017 who will be formally inducted at the ASCI’s annual meeting April 21 in Chicago. Dransfield holds the William C. Bailey Endowed Chair in Pulmonary Disease and is the medical director of the UAB Lung Health Center. His clinical interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer. He is the principal investigator for multiple clinical trials at the Lung Health Center, including the NIH- sponsored COPD Clinical Research Network and COPDGene studies. Founded in 1908, the American Society for Clinical Investigation is one of the oldest and most esteemed nonprofit honor societies of physician-scientists. Membership is by election only, and only researchers who are 50 years of age or younger are eligible for nomination to the Society. Therefore, membership in the ASCI is a recognition of a researcher’s significant contributions, at a relatively young age, to the understanding of human disease. 64 | Summer 2017
