14 | Summer 2017 Jon Woods Award Jon Woods was a member of the Greensboro Day School’s class of 1978. During his time at GDS, Jon assumed the role of “Athletic Everything.” Each year, a student showing that same level of commitment and energy is recognized with the Jon Woods Award. To be eligible, a student must support the athletic program in multiple ways, and show energy and excitement for the teams and overall program. This year’s recipient showed an interest in Sports Medicine during his sophomore year. He took that interest beyond the classroom and quickly developed a passion to learn all he could. He ran the clock and score board at different events, and was always willing to help set up, take down, or do other tasks asked of him. He holds an unbeatable record for Sports Medicine hours at more than 500 and plans to pursue this field in college. Congratulations to Michael Williams ’17 for receiving the Jon Woods Award.
